Additional information

The paper describes part of a DTI (Contract No 39/3/379 CCC 2399)/industry-funded project. The laboratory/site testing programme investigated the effect of self-compacting concrete (SCC) on the pressure on formwork, relevant to temporary works design of vertical elements. The findings demonstrate that SCC can be used within the CIRIA 108 framework for estimating concrete design pressures. These are explicitly cited and have been used to inform a working party of the Concrete Society in their preparation of 'Formwork - a guide to good practice', 2012 (the authoritative official UK guidance on formwork).
