This is a companion paper to Output 2, presenting a centrifuge-based physical study of the behaviour of piled foundations in seismically-liquefying soil. This work was awarded the British Geotechnical Association (BGA) Medal 2009 and the T K Hsieh Award 2010, the latter awarded jointly by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and Society for Civil Engineering Dynamics (SECED) for the best paper on earthquake engineering or soil dynamics in an international journal published in the preceding year.
