Additional information

This paper derives from an EPSRC research grant (2004-2007). The paper provides the first experimental evidence that it is possible to discriminate multiple partial discharge (PD) faults using a combined IEC60270 and RF emission measurement system. The results demonstrate the significance of benchmarking and evaluating combined measurement methods to discriminate PD faults. These methods have been adopted into Doble Engineering’s new generation of PD systems i.e. the PDS100, PDS200 and DFA300 which all employ RF emission and conventional sensor measurement capabilities to discriminate PD faults. The work reported in the paper has contributed to securing £2.4Million research funding from Doble.
