SBook 7 Dyslexia = Proud
Research Context and Description: Dyslexia mainly affects the development of literacy and language related skills. It tends to be resistant to teaching methods and is particularly prevalent amongst those who have strong visual communication skills. Hence, the percentage of Art & Design students suffering from this learning difficulty is greater than in the general population. It is characterised by difficulties with phonology processing and rapid naming. This book visually explores the condition using primary source interviews with artists and designers. Then using short quotes, of recurring themes, to create typographic illusion to help explain the problems faced by a dyslexic reader.
Significance:
The principal objective of this book was to investigate and then celebrate the alternative skill set of those who have dyslexia. Dyslexics have been described as multi-dimensional creative thinkers, who think in pictures rather than words. The book seeks to visually represent this alternative thinking process.
