Adaptive quadtree simulation of shallow flows with wet-dry fronts over complex topography
This paper presents a mathematically well-balanced scheme for flood simulation over varying terrain. This is a highly regarded paper: http://www.journals.elsevier.com/computers-and-fluids/most-cited-articles/, as evidenced by uptake in: New Zealand, DoI:10.1007/s10236-011-0438-z; Spain DoI:10.1016/j.jcp.2012.06.031; and Korea, DoI:10.1016/j.advwatres.2012.01.003. The model underpins an EU collaboration (G.Kiely@ucc.ie) with UC Cork and UPMC Paris that resulted in a €4M application for an EU ERC Synergy Grant 2013, which is currently at final review (Agnes.Kulcsar@ec.europe.eu). Borthwick presented these results in the ICE Dugald Clerk Lecture (http://www.eng.ox.ac.uk/public-relations/news/the-2011-prestigious-dugald-clerk-lecture-in-civil-engineering).
