Extra Long Imaging Range Swept Source Optical Coherence Tomography using Re-circulating Loops
A major disadvantage of spectral OCT is its sensitivity decay with depth due to the limited coherence length of the tuneable source. This paper demonstrates the capability of a novel interferometry configuration equipped with an active ring with frequency shifting in each arm in multiplying the axial range by interference of multiple round trip waves (US20110109911). With support of an EPSRC grant (EP/H004963/1), this paper presents the demonstration of the largest axial range spectral OCT cross section (>2.5 cm) ever reported. The same technology opens the possibility of simultaneous imaging from several depths opening novel avenues in OCT and sensing.
