Additional information

This paper reports novel experimental results for the dense phase vertical conveying of coarse spherical particles from a fluidised bed. Virtually nothing has been published before on this topic. The particles used are unusually large because the work was sponsored by the Culham Science Centre as part of the development of a diverter system for a full-scale continuous spherical tokomak fusion reactor. The particles need to be large to withstand the thermal shock of falling through a plasma beam. The experimental apparatus was designed ab initio and at a size that is close to that proposed for the real system.
