Effectiveness of cognitive-behavioural, person-centred, and psychodynamic therapies in UK primary-care routine practice: replication in a larger sample
An earlier study required replication and refinement due to (a) potential confounds arising from sampling primary and secondary care patients, and (b) the announcement in 2006 from Lord Layard announcing the UK government’s Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) initiative based in primary care. Accordingly, in the 2008 article we focused solely on (a) only patients from primary care services and non-overlapping with the sample used in the earlier study, and (b) extended the sample size more than fourfold (5613 vs. 1309) in order to provide the most robust test of detecting potentially small differences between treatments.
