Additional information

This is the first time a 3D global model of a tall building was developed using the Finite Element method incorporating 3D behaviour and the composite action of slabs. This has been shown by Prof Sherif El-Tawilas to be a more accurate approach. Because floor slabs play a crucial role in progressive collapse response and huge differences have been found between results from 2-D models and 3-D models. Therefore, it provides an accurate but simplified numerical modelling method to other peer researchers in this area.
