Research Aims
This piece used hierarchical Markovian algorithms to model on the micro and macro levels material depicting the psycho-geography of a location (Lake Louise, Canada), and pathways taken around the lake. The algorithmic method allows material to be first generated, then recalled in a secondary layer, suggesting the interaction of lived experience and the recall of memory.
Methodology
The initial requirement to record musically valid sounds from ice proved quite a challenge; these sounds were then organised using three layers of technology - PWGL, creating the algorithmic structure; MAXMSP for the Digital Sound Transformation; and finally Ableton Live for sequencing and triggering of sounds.
