Research content/process:

Armitage co-conceived the volume with Paul Virilio and co-commissioned all the essays. He was the sole author of the introduction (Chapter 1), the sole interviewer of Virilio (Chapter 2) and the joint author of one other chapter (Chapter 10). Paul Virilio has dramatically altered the face of the critical theory of art and technology by posing crucial theoretical and historical questions. Armitage’s editorial and authorial contributions to Virilio Now: Current Perspectives in Virilio Studies uniquely provide a critical overview of Virilio’s career and his relationship to visual culture that engages three contemporary American painters of the apocalyptic sublime.
