Significance of output:

The evaluation of the severity of shocks is one of the least explored and most uncertain areas of whole-body vibration. This paper reports the largest and most systematic experimental study to have been undertaken. It provides the basis for evaluating the discomfort caused by shocks and is also influencing methods of evaluating the potential for shocks to cause injury.
