Significance of output:

Berms of earth left in front of embedded retaining structures aid wall stability and limit displacements, contributing to economy of design. Earth berms are difficult to incorporate within limiting equilibrium stability calculations; this research determines a safe approach for including the influence of a berm in effective stress calculations.
