Low loss depressed cladding waveguide inscribed in YAG : Nd single crystal by femtosecond laser pulses
This paper describes a novel approach to single process fabrication of integrated-solid state lasers-on-a-chip suitable for integration in hybrid photonic circuits. This paper is the pivotal output of collaborative work with an EU Marie Curie Fellow Dr Okhrimchuk (EUR 240k). The results were crucial in securing a Leverhulme visiting professorship (£55k, 2012). The paper stimulated interest in Aston's research and resulted in an invited talk at PULMM-2013. It demonstrated Aston's expertise and ability in this field and a further Leverhulme Trust research grant (£230k) has since be awarded to continue this work.
