Double-weighted statement

This book, based on extensive AHRC-funded research, offers original critical insight in this first major study of Joan Littlewood. It analyses a considerable body of material spanning productions of devised pieces, new writing and Renaissance classics and is ground-breaking for examining Littlewood’s plans for a Fun Palace and her community-based activism/practice. This authoritative study required a lengthy period of data collection in numerous archives including those held at Stratford East; Austin, Texas; Ruskin College and Colindale and draws on a wide range of interdisciplinary research encompassing social history and cultural politics, alongside theories of class, space and citizenship.
