Additional information

The research which supports this paper was conducted by an international consortium as part of a programme funded by ESA. The paper compares ionospheric models from UPC (Spain), DLR (Germany), ESA and QinetiQ (UK) in order to assess the current state-of-the-art and to propose how future models might be developed. This is one of very few papers that have compared ionospheric model performance based on a fully controlled data set. Specifically the paper indicates the superior performance that can be achieved using adaptive correlation lengths based on the data.
