Additional information

Collaboration with materials scientists and chemists in Birmingham and physicists from Amiens and ESRF in France enabled a unique combination of Raman spectroscopy, electron and X-ray diffraction and electrical analysis, to the conclusion that depletion layers, not atomic displacements, were the source of voltage-tuning of permittivity in a ferroelectric film with extended defects limiting the tuning. An invited article for Journal of Materials Science, a review in Journal of Physics D, an invited talk at ISIF2010 (Puerto Rico), a NATO Science for Peace project and collaboration with Cranfield and Heriot Watt universities and BAE Systems were enabled by this work.
