Crystallographic texture and microstructure of pulsed diode laser-deposited Waspaloy
This paper described cross disciplinary research (Manufacturing Engineering - Material Science – Modelling) that identifies the effect Diode laser pulse parameters have on the grain morphology and microtexture of laser-deposited Waspaloy and explains the effects via analytical modelling. It is one of the first to relate laser processing conditions to microstructure and provide a practical and theoretical basis to create microstructures to meet functional needs, something that has been widely identified as a manufacturing aim especially by sectors such as aerospace. The research was funded by the EPSRC (EP/C00194X/1) and supported by three industrial partners including Rolls-Royce.
