<02>This paper initiated a significant new strand of research into decentralised Web services orchestration, and is considered to be one of the seminal research papers in this area. Our approach introduces an architecture that leverages a series of proxies, which can be placed at strategic network locations to forward data by reference between Web services in a workflow. Since publication there have been a number of significant projects, papers and implementations that build upon the work presented in this seminal ACM HPDC 2008 (acceptance rate: 17%) paper.
