This work is a first theoretical investigation of the considered broadcasting algorithm on a random network. We consider a very simple random network, the random graph, as a first approximation of a “real-world-network”. Since this work, a lot of research has been devoted to the investigation of the algorithm on more complicated random networks that model the “real-world” behaviours more closely. Applications lie for example in peer-to-peer systems and social networks. See http://www.dagstuhl.de/en/program/calendar/semhp/?semnr=13042

for an overview of more recent developments and applications.
