This major research report represents the culmination of what was, during the 1980s and early 1990s, the largest prehistoric project yet undertaken in Britain. Adopting an original structure, with synthesis in Vol. 1 linked via in-text panels to a second volume of specialist reports (Vol. 2), the publication presents a vigorous and highly detailed analysis of a riverine landscape and monument complex over a period of 5,000 years. Preparation of the whole integrated publication took 10 years to complete and runs to over 1,200 pages (Vols 1 and 2), plus freely available GIS-ready data archive.
