Competing geometric and inertial effects on local flow structure in thick gravity-driven fluid films
Published in one of the two premier international fluid mechanics journals, this was an international collaboration with Bayreuth University, Germany sponsored by EPRSC visiting fellowship grant (EP/E029183/1) to Leeds authors. This is the first paper in the field of thin film flow to devise a means of characterising surface topography effects on recirculating flow development in terms of a local Reynolds number. The work has been presented at three international meetings (EUROMECH Colloquium 497, 8th European Coating Symposium, XXII International Congress of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics) and led to several follow-up papers in leading journals plus further funding to Bayreuth.
