Detecting and Identifying Artificial Acoustic Emission Signals in an Industrial Fatigue Environment
The work in this paper gave the crucial insight that specific clustering of events in the spatial and feature domain would enable detection of AE signals in a noisy environment. This offers a practical alternative for commercial systems. The work was extended to provide validation of the technique under an industrial research grant sponsored by Messier Dowty entitled “Fatigue of test lugs” (Contact Mr Phil Cole, MISTRAS (ptc@pacuk.co.uk) and Mr Tim Baker, tim.baker@messier-dowty.com). This work has attracted significant interest in China, for example Prof F Chu, Tsinghua University, has requested collaboration and a CSC visiting scholarship has been arranged.
