Double-weighted statement
The work tackles the subject of state intervention in trade extensively collecting material from a variety of non-traditional sources that took place over the period of 6 years, including material from mostly non-excavated ancient mines held only in the Institute of Geological and Mineral Exploration in Athens, Greece. It also brings together existing sources in a new methodology, such as the use of precious metal amounts from coin hoards to show the import/export balance of bullion, and the use of detailed analysis of fleet strengths to arrive at import needs for ship-building timber.
