Controlling epidemic spread by social distancing: Do it well or not at all
<28> This paper presents an original contribution to a novel field of adaptive networks and is the first paper to address this issue. It uses state-of-the-art software to model human behaviour. The work provides guidelines for public health authorities to incentivize populations to avoid transmission of diseases like influenza. The paper formed the basis for interdisciplinary experiments in 2012-2013 involving collaboration with psychologists (Strathclyde and University of Western Scotland). An inter-disciplinary collaboration with economists from Arizona State University, University of Wyoming, Michigan State University and York has been established as a direct result of the work described in this paper.
