Additional information

<28> This is part of ongoing research on the effects of nitric oxide in a brain nucleus. Computational modelling posits a hypothetical positive feedback of Nitric Oxide synthesis on nearby non-active cells. Further experimental work (Steinert et al Neuron 71:291-305, 2011) expands upon the possible effects on ion channels of Nitric Oxide, but the hypothesis remains to be tested experimentally due to technical challenges. This paper is the subject of a Research Highlights in Nature Reviews Neuroscience (NRN 10(1):3, 2009) and is cited in 10 review papers (not counting those by the authors) on Nitric Oxide and ion channel modulation.
