Dispersion interactions between semiconducting wires
This paper has been largely responsible for a qualitative change in understanding the importance of van der Waals interactions between low-dimensional systems like molecular wires. We now understand how non-additivity of the dispersion interaction increases in small-gap materials and also how the usual C6/R6 picture breaks down. As a result of this paper (and related subsequent work) our community is now making important steps in the development of dispersion models that incorporate these anomalous effects. This paper also led directly to a collaboration with groups in Cambridge and Japan on further aspects of the many-body nature of the dispersion energy,
