Direct measurement of the electronic spin diffusion length in a fully functional organic spin valve by low-energy muon spin rotation.
This paper demonstrated that spins are transported in the bulk of the organic semiconductor (OSC) and an underlying electron spin relaxation is present in OSC. Led to invited talks at SpinOS2009 (foremost conference on organic spintronics), ASR2009 (conference in Japan on exotic particle beams) and the German Physical Society (DFG) 2010 and numerous colloquia/workshops. Invitation to join a successful EU funded project (HINTS) and wider international collaborations on organic spintronics (USA, Japan, China, Germany, Italy, France, Switzerland and Spain). Led to Drew joining QMUL with a Leverhulme Fellowship and in-part used to justify his successful ERC starting grant.
