Additional information

The aim of this study was to investigate how design innovations can be used to change consumer behaviour to reduce the environmental impacts of a product during its use stage. A Design Behaviour Intervention Model (DBIM) has provided a first attempt at achieving this through synthesising social-psychological theories and behaviour intervention strategies. A case study is presented to demonstrate the application of the model from the user study to idea generation stages of the product development process. The DBIM provides an original contribution to sustainable design theory and is currently being taught as part of eco/sustainable design courses in higher education.
