Discoloration of Teeth after Avulsion and Replantation: Results from a Multicenter Randomized Controlled Trial
Westland has developed methods for capturing colorimetrically accurate digital images and this allows images to be used for scientific purposes. In this research collaboration with a network of dental academics and professionals leds to a new method to assess colour changes that occur when childrens' teeth are replanted in the gums (usually following serious head trauma). Treatments are develoded that can reduce the unwanted discoloration but this requires accurate measurement of tooth colour in patients. This work was also presented at the Annual Congress of the International Association of Paediatric Dentistry and was awarded the Jens Anderson Award in 2009 and 2011.
