Additional information

Ever-increasing consumer expectations and global competition mean that companies are constantly seeking to manufacture better quality displays for mobile devices. In this work, co-authored with the mobile phone manufacturer Samsung, observers were asked to rate a number of different images shown on a mobile phone in terms of image quality. The images were also assessed in terms of naturalness, clearness, sharpness, contrast, and colourfulness. Naturalness and clearness were found to best correlate with overall image quality. This new finding will be used to develop new mobile phone displays that can have better consumer satisfaction.
