The geometric design of nonwoven scaffolds is thought to influence the process of tissue regeneration and this research was amongst only a few studies to elucidate in quantitative terms the influence of fibre alignment/arrangement on soft tissue growth. The knowledge developed in this study was followed by new collaborative research on the design and assembly of nonwoven tissue scaffolds for dental repair as part of the Welmec project funded by the Wellcome Trust/EPSRC.
