Quantitative assessment of commercial filter 'aids' for red-green colour defectives
This study developed a novel method for assessing the efficacy of commercially available correction lenses for colour blindness. This was achieved by developing expansion and contraction factors in a uniform colour space. The method was used to assess 43 commercial products and revealed they were not effective; many attenuate traffic signals below the detection threshold set by the European Standard and should be considered as dangerous in a traffic environment. This study was in collaboration with Keele University and has led to receive innovation funds to develop a new technique to substantially improve the colour vision of colour-blind observers.
