Additional information

Based on a rigorous application of key literature review principles the authors examined a sample of websites from four countries that dealt with children's health. The two authors independently produced consistent results and found that different countries appeared to have different priorities in terms of design and content. Generally the western websites were rated more highly than those from China and Taiwan, demonstrating a shortfall in the quality of eastern websites. This is significant as it shows a clear divide which needs addressing. To the authors' knowledge it is the first time there has been a systematic investigation of cultural difference in website design for children's health.
