Additional information

This work was a collaborative research project with the University of Cape Town, funded by EDF energy (contact: Engineer, Graphite Core Project Team). The research integrated digital image correlation and finite element analysis, so that nonlinear fracture properties (e.g. energy release rate) can be extracted directly from experiments. It has been used as a tool in other projects including an EPSRC grant (EP/J019992/1) and an Oxford Martin School funded project (Improving nuclear materials for the next generation - James.Marrow@materials.ox.ac.uk).
