Additional information

This paper pioneered the application of modelling and simulation techniques from the science of evolutionary complex systems in the field of Operations and Production Management. A design and decision-support tool has been developed for managers where the introduction or reconfiguration of new manufacturing technologies and practices, and the different evolutionary trajectories that a manufacturing system can take, can be explored. This has informed the £43M AMRC Factory 2050: a research factory involving Boeing, Airbus, Rolls-Royce and BAE Systems that is the UK’s first fully reconfigurable manufacturing and assembly facility.
