The first measurement of differential boson + jet cross sections at D0, an essential test of QCD predictions and a main Higgs background. Hesketh developed the phenomenological methods to define leptons at the particle level, now the standard technique at the LHC. He was the sole analyser: defining the event selection, performing the data analysis, running all the theory predictions, and writing the paper.
