Significance of output:

A new design for green lasers used in cinema projectors, with the highest reported optical-to-optical conversion efficiency of 52%. This result uses Southampton patent PCT/GB2009/00358 and represents a collaboration between Chinese laser cinema manufacturer Phoebus Vision and ORC spin-out Covesion Ltd. Corin Gawith has been seconded to Covesion since 2009 as CTO and PI of £1.7M of industrial- and grant-supported projects on laser displays, including this and a subsequent 2012-2014 £0.3M TSB-funded Knowledge Transfer Partnership #8758 with Southampton.
