Additional information

For the first time, a quantitative, non-subjective and automatic method of monitoring facial palsy is presented. The NHS funded work was carried out between 2005-2009 in collaboration with an ENT (ear, nose, throat) surgeon, from the Southern General Hospital (Glasgow) Dr B.O.Reilly [bforeilly@hotmail.com], leading to the establishment of the standard 'Glasgow Facial Palsy Scale' (GFPS) [www.gfps.org.uk]. The GFPS has since seen international adoption and is now clinically used in 3 hospitals in Glasgow as well as hospitals in Europe [Dr Gabriella Kecskés, kecskes.ent@gmail.com, Clinician, Hungary], and the Boston Eye and Ear Centre [Dr Tessa Hadlock, tessa_hadlock@meii.harvard.edu].
