Additional information

• An in-depth study on fatigue life predictions under variable amplitude load, a major challenge to the transport industry for enhanced damage tolerant designs.

• Important functional differences between the finite element and the strip-yield modelling results are identified under repeated overloads, which are linked to the absence of the in-plane constraint in the strip-yield model.

• EPSRC and Airbus UK funded and is valuable to the development of next generation damage tolerant design algorithms. Airbus is using these results to improve aircraft designs (Dr Danong Dai, Danong.Dai@Airbus.com). Led to collaborations with Indian Institute of Technology and Jesmond Engineering Ltd.
