Additional information

The result of collaborations between Sheffield and MedImmune (OD, RF) and Sheffield and Pall (PLL), combining the work of two Industrial CASE postgraduates funded by the EPSRC (BCT) and the BBSRC (CRJS). This paper pioneered the use of “Design of Experiments” statistical modelling to optimise a rapid means of biopharmaceutical manufacturing based on transient gene expression, which is now used frequently by biomanufacturing companies. The core statistical modelling approach has been extended via a EU FP7 grant to develop a new high-throughput cellular analysis product that predicts cell bioprocess performance (patent application filed; WO1317387.8).
