Additional information
Designing a formation of satellites to achieve a mission depends upon the spatial colocation of the satellites in projection onto the sky. While end users can determine the formation geometry, until now there has not been a mechanism to map these requirements into satellite orbits. In this paper we solve this problem and show how a wide variety of geometries can be created for various application areas in Earth observation, determining the trajectories. This paper will have significant impact on determining the capabilities and design of swarms of small cooperative satellites.
