Additional information

<12> Through a novel algorithm and rigorous analysis, this paper provides the best-quality guarantee for a mathematical model of buffer management in QoS switches. The significance of this research has been widely recognised, and was presented in detail in ACM SIGACT News. A preliminary version was presented at SODA’07. The approach outperforms all other known algorithms, despite active research in this area, as shown by the large number of citations. In particular, it outperforms a competing algorithm by Li, Sethuraman, Stein (Columbia). The model has found wider application, e.g. modelling of dynamic auctions (cf. Cole, NYU; Dobzinski, Weizmann; Fleischer, Dartmouth).
