The spiral microcavity is extremely challenging to model because it combines two different scales: the smooth deviation of the spiral from a large-radius circle and a small, abrupt, step.  Providing such flexible analysis underpins our Strategic Partnership in electromagnetic simulation with CST Ltd (Richard Scaramuzza, Richard.Scaramuzza@cst.com)
