Additional information

This paper was written as part of a collaborative research project sponsored by Pilkington Plc, a UK glass manufacturer now part of the NSG Group. The detailed analyses carried out in particular on the effects of the glass edge conditions on its breakage have helped Pilkington in reviewing the manufacturing process of glass and to understand better how the edge conditions could quantitatively influence its fracture in fires. The study has also helped Dr Dembele and the Kingston CFES build a strong reputation in glass behaviour in fires research. A follow up project is currently under consideration.
