Double-weighted statement

This monograph was funded by a 3-year AHRC award and took up the majority of Thackeray's research time between 2006-12. It is densely researched, making substantial use of previously neglected archival and written sources, and covers a wide time-frame for a monograph exploring twentieth century British politics. Aside from offering a substantial reappraisal of the Conservative party's adaptation to mass politics, the book makes an important contribution to debates about gender politics and political communication in the early twentieth century.
