English abstract

This article relates to my edition of Rodrigue, published in the Debussy Œuvres complètes. The work received much misleading attention in the standard literature before its publication; this article is a first attempt to relate it to his later output. Key-schemes, harmonic devices, prosody and even some parallels of situation are examined: developed in the period between the composition of this abandoned piece and Pelléas. Particularly highlighted are criticisms by Paul Dukas who was privileged to hear Rodrigue performed at the piano by Debussy and who enthusiastically related the piece to the composer’s early songs. A letter is presented in facsimile.
