A novel algorithm for initial lesion detection in ultrasound breast images.

<23>We present an algorithm to automate the process of initial lesion detection in ultrasound images. We introduce a hybrid filter, followed by an efficient segmentation algorithm, and finally automate the lesion detection process. The significance of the algorithm lies in saving sonography labelling time, and it out-performs the benchmark algorithm. This work attracted significant attention from the medical imaging communities, and led to further development with Universitat De Girona, Spain. It also led to further funding from the Malaysian Government, sponsoring a PhD student to work on medical imaging under my supervision.
