Dual-wavelength mode-locked quantum-dot laser, via ground and excited state transitions: experimental and theoretical investigation
This paper demonstrates the simultaneous generation of ultrashort pulses from two different optical transitions (ground and excited states), from an ultrafast quantum-dot laser. This work inspired further international theoretical and experimental research (Germany, Italy, Greece, Ireland, Belgium, France, etc). The exploitation of this regime could enable a range of applications ranging from time-domain spectroscopy, through to biomedical imaging and optical communications. This work led to two invited talks on E-MRS Spring Meeting’11 and EOS Topical Meeting on Lasers’11. This is also one of the key results that led to the award of the prestigious Philip Leverhulme Prize in 2011.
