Use of Small Angle Neutron Scattering for observation of a single molecule layer of water around 5 nm calcium carbonate particles dispersed in organic media. This is the smallest layer ever observed. This work has led to three further studentships with Infineum. The findings from the initial study, shown in this paper, has led to a research program at Infineum of 7 PhD and 12 BSc FTE's. The output from one of the subsequent student's work is currently going through the patenting process and this may lead to a manufacturing redesign. (contact Dr Dowding, email available on request).
